Maui, Hawaii Part 2 "Road to Hana"

            Day 3 ~ We drove the "Road to Hana"...

 This is a 'must do' in Maui, so many beautiful sights to see along this road!  There is a total of 40 scenic stops along this road, but we only did about the top 10 so we could do it all in one day.  

           

It was nothing but thick jungle along the sides of the road...When we first started our drive it was raining a bit..

It's a good thing I had brought this map!  I thought I could just use my phone for directions, but there was no service on this road..

 

 Our first stop on the "Road to Hana'" was Twin Falls.

There is gorgeous views along the entire road!  We couldn't stop taking pictures :)

We drove past So many small waterfalls that were just right alongside the road!

Our next stop was a short hike to this beautiful waterfall...

Next we stopped at Honomanu Bay ...

 

Our next stop was at the Ka'eleku Cave, or better known as the "Hana Lava Tube".  The Lava tube was created from lava that flowed underground from a volcano into the ocean.

They handed us each high powered flashlights, and we headed down into the cave.  It was neat that we got to explore it by ourselves!

After walking deep into the cave for about 30 minutes, the cave tour ended.  You could continue on through the cave all the way to the ocean, but it would be a 27 hour walk!!

It was a really neat experience!

Next stop on the "Road to Hana" was Black Sand Beach...

Our last stop on the "Road to Hana" was the Pipiwai Trail...

 We hiked past this Huge Banyan tree!

This was So amazing to walk through! All you could hear was the bamboo creaking in the breeze and the birds singing...

At the end of our hike we came to the Wailua Falls.  These falls are 400 feet high!  This had to have been one of the best spots on Maui, it was So breathtaking!  Pictures just don't capture how beautiful and amazing it was....  

 

 We sat underneath of it for awhile just taking it all in, and enjoying the mist from the waterfall.  The heavy mist felt So good, we were hot after our long hike.

When we reached the end of the "Road to Hana" instead of turning around, we decided to keep driving around the island and take a different way back to our resort, even though this was supposed to be a narrow and windy road.  But we had a jeep so we figured we could do it ;)

We were so glad we kept driving, there was some Amazing views!

  Maui's scenery is so diverse!  We went from thick jungle landscape, to this... 

 That big mountain that you see is the Haleakala Crater.  It's 10,000 ft high and was Maui's largest volcano.  You can't tell how tall it is in the picture, partly because of the clouds.  In person it looks Huge

 

They had windmills on two different spots on the island...

From this view you can see the ocean on either side of the island!

The reason you can see ocean on either side is because that skinny part of the island on the left side of this map is what your seeing in the picture above...

~ And so ends Day 3 in Maui :)
